General Care Guidelines

. If the saddle gets wet, clean all leather parts that have been exposed to moisture, let dry

naturally, and oil with best application available.

. Don't

. use artificial heat or direct sunlight to dry leather or it may become brittle and lose its strength.

Leather which has been burned through this process should no longer be used.

. use Cleaning products not designed for leather.

. use solvents for cleaning.

. Always store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or artificial heat.

. use waxes, silicone, or other preparations that impair the ability of leather to breathe.

. use greases because they seal the pores, picking up additional dust and dirt and

  slowing drying time.

. use caustic household chemicals to clean leather. Avoid preparations that contain alcohol,

  turpentine, or mineral spirits.

. use mink or animal fats. They will darken leather. Animal fat can also turn rancid, causing the

 stitching and leather to rot.

.DO

. Keep the leather clean when not in use

. Store in a cool dry place

. Use Glycerin/leather soap to neutralize acids and salts in sweat (Do not use on suede's) deters mold and mildew, with its antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties

. Oil regularly but avoid over oiling

. Use Atlas pure neat's-foot oil, Lexol, Skidmore's cowboy edition leather cream, Obenaufs Leather protector

. Use a saddle stand or if one is not available, park the saddle upright with horn and pommel on the ground, never leave the saddle flat on the ground.

. take care of it for a very long healthy life.

Rough out Leather

. Occasionally you may need to brush the rough side hide with a stiff bristle brush or even sandpaper to bring the nap up, this should not be

 done too often.

. Never oil the rough side, instead oil the grain side under and behind the rough side.

. Don't over oil, it's just as bad as never oiling and never dip a cloth in oil and try to wipe it, it will leave a permanent oil mark, instead use a

barely oiled rag, not a dripping one.

. Don't use water and soap to clean a rough out saddle.
